All eyes on Ike

All eyes are currently on Ike; models continue to shift, pushing Ike farther to the south. But readers should remember late last week when most guidance was moving Ike along eastern Florida, and staying in the Atlantic. Our track (map shows position as of yesterday afternoon) is still along the central to western Gulf once it passes through western Cuba later today; anywhere from Corpus Christi to Galveston is fair game. The ridge would really need to strengthen significantly to push Ike south of Corpus Christi, which the current NHC track is hinting at. Regardless of Ike’s path, expect a volatile session in oil and NG today. Ike is moving into the Gulf on the heels of OPEC’s view of ‘well-balanced’ inventories.
